The 5K

We DID it! We ran 3.1 miles! J.D. and I have been training for this little run for a couple of months now. It's been a slow process for me but two days before the race, JD and I ran and he pushed me to finish the whole 3 miles. It was so hard but so awesome. I had been stuck at 2 miles for awhile and I was worried I wouldn't be able to run the full 3 on race day. But I did it. My sister Krista and I ran together the whole way and yes we didn't stop once! And we did it in about 34 minutes. Yippee! That was my goal - no stopping! JD ran it too but he was infront of us the whole way. He worked hard too and ran it in 30 minutes. Josh and Dawson also joined us without any training and they did awesome too. They ran the first mile pretty close to JD and then walked and ran. When Krista and I caught up to them Dawson decided to come with us. He would walk for a few minutes and then run to catch up and walk and catch up. He did that the whole way and ended up coming in about 30 seconds behind me. I was totally impressed. Josh came in about 10 minutes after us with my brother Bobby and his wife Melissa.

We got the final results emailed to us today. Dawson actually got 3rd place in the under 12 division. Josh got 8th place. JD got 8th place in the 30-39 age group! I didn't place but oh well! It was really a good experience and I am glad we did it. I think we are going to make this a new tradition. It was part of the North Salt Lake City celebration (where my parents live) and they do it every year.

60 Years of Marriage - WOW!

J.D.'s grandpa and grandma Seastrand celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Saturday. There was a great fun party that as Dawson tells it lasted from 3pm to 10pm - 7 hours! It was really an amazing day. Gareth and Dorothy are the coolest people I think I have ever met. So fun, happy, energetic, and Christlike. Here they are with their 20 grandchildren (two are missing - one is on a mission in California and one passed away) so there are a total of 22 grandchildren with 14 great grandchildren. And it was so cool that everyone from all over was there.

There was a talent show where the Hanks' grandchildren sang Long Tall Texan. My boys did so well. They are quite the entertainers. Then JD and I, his two sisters and their husbands, and his brother and his wife, got all dressed up in hip hop clothes and danced to Souja Boy! Man are we white! Just kidding - it was so fun and everyone said we did good. My brother would probably be laughing his head off at our trying to dance but we did good for a bunch of white, old people!
JD made a great video of all the grandkids with each one telling a favorite memory of grandma and grandpa. It turned out so nice and they loved it. Then his uncle Mark made a video of their lives and that was awesome! I am so blessed to have married into such a great family. I hope JD and I can be so in love forever like them and be the kind of people they are. The kind of people who make everyone feel special and make everyone feel included and comfortable and easy to talk to and loved (I could go on)! I want to be like that!

The Last week of May!

The Last Week of May

The month of May was a busy one for us! But this last week has been a lot of fun! We celebrated JD's birthday the day after his big debut as a rockstar, with some friends and family! It was quite a good time. I made a slideshow of JD's 35 years and that was really neat to do! We showed that in the backyard that night - it was fun! We played games, had food and enjoyed one another but I totally did not get out the camera! Bummer! The next night we decided to do a movie night in the backyard with the Carter cousins - that was fun. We watched Enchanted and of course we couldn't start it till like 9pm so it was a late night. Then comes the Rain Gutter Regata. Josh's boat rocked! The Serpent "Y" (named after a book called the Serpent Tide"), did not lose one race until the final championship race. It was quite exciting! So he won 2nd place! He also received his religious knot and some belt loops at the court of honor that night! Then on Friday, my dad calls and invites us to go to Lagoon for FREE with his work! So awesome! We went and had a great, wonderful, fabulous time. Dawson was a little bit leery of the spinning and fast rides. So he stuck to the kid rides and simple stuff! Josh, Tanner, JD, and cousin Cade were maniacs. They went on a lot of the big, fast rides. I about had it out with JD when he took Tanner on The Colossus. I was worried he would get brain damage or something - he is only 4! But he was big enough so what could I say! Anyway - we had a wonderful time - thanks Dad! You are awesome! May was a good month! Oh and when did I get old enough to now have a 4th grader and a 2nd grader!

By the way I am a computer dork and couldn't figure out a way to get my thoughts on the same post as my slideshow! Oh well, I will learn or I will call Breanne!

Living the Dream!

J.D. turned 35 and he did it with a bang! He fulfilled his life long dream on the evening of May 23rd. He got to play bass in a live band at Cavestock. Cavestock is a battle of the bands at the high school he teaches at. The battle is for the students but this band J.D. played in was with two other teachers and they would play in between the student bands.

J.D. did totally awesome! The students loved it and it was so funny to hear them yelling "Mr. Hanks!!!" He even got to sing back up on a couple of songs. He really did soooo good. He definitely could be the next Jon Bon Jovi, IF he wasn't such an amazing teacher! My husband the rock star - I am so proud!!!
